Fairfield Preserves 100-Year Old Tree with Development of Fifteen15 South Lamar Apartments

In 2021, Fairfield began the development of Fifteen15 South Lamar Apartments in the South Lamar district of Austin, TX. The development site was home to a 100-year old heritage oak tree, which was carefully relocated to be preserved and incorporated into the community's central courtyard as a functional living element.

To care for the tree and foster growth in its new location, Fairfield worked with an arborist for more than six months while the piece of Austin history settled into its new home. During this time, construction of the community forged ahead.

Fairfield successfully preserved the tree and featured it as a functional design element in the community's central courtyard. Decking was added under the tree's canopy to create a shaded seating area for residents to enjoy.
