How to Move On a Budget

Moving always seems to be more expensive than anticipated, doesn’t it? However if you’re on a budget there are certain things you can do save money and even come out ahead. Let’s check out the ways!

  • Write Down Your Budget – The first step is to figure out your budget for rent and moving costs including your deposit. Then include any movers or moving trucks. If you can forgo those and move with the help of friends or family you’ll definitely save some money!
  • Look for Moving Specials – Many apartment communities offer leasing specials that will save you costs up front. Each property at Fairfield Residential is different, but many offer some pretty amazing specials like big savings on your first month of rent or free Visa gift cards then you sign a lease.
  • Sell or Get Rid of Items You Don’t Need – Before you move you’ll want to purge your current space of any items you really don’t need. Not only will this save you room, but you might even be able to get some extra money out of it. Sell old clothing to second hand vintage stores or have a garage sale to get rid of old stuff.
  • Save Shipping Supplies Prior to Your Move – If you can plan ahead, start early with saving boxes and packaging so that you don’t have to go out and buy them when it’s moving time. A great way to do this is to save Amazon or other shipping boxes. Buy packing tape in bulk online instead of going to the typical places places like U-Haul stores and drug stores which usually have higher retail prices.

Stick to these tips and you should definitely be able to stay within your budget when you move!
